I finally completed Heather & Derek’s new home office move in & organizational make-over! If you remember from a few blog post ago, they just built a new home & Heather had her last reconstructive breast surgery the week they moved in. So as you can imagine, they were in major need of some unpacking & organizing assistance.
I had some specific goals to achieve when organizing this space. The office needed to be multi-functional for several different purposes…
1. Georgia James (Heather’s interior design business)
2. Fighting Fancy (Heather’s non-profit she started & runs out of her home)
3. The Hat Club (A non-profit that Derek is currently the president of)
Let’s take a look at the BEFORE photos…
Here it is AFTER it was unpacked & organized by Mind Over Matter…
This is Heather’s wall with her Georgia James accolades. She was chosen as one of Soirée’s Women 2 Watch, Soirée’s 20 under 20 & featured on the cover of CUE. I love the idea of having things like this framed in your office! I honestly believe it keeps you motivated & inspired while you’re doing what you do best in your workspace. It reminds you of what you’ve worked hard to accomplish & keeps you motivated to keep doing amazing things! Or should I say it keeps you “hustlin'” as Heather & I like to call it! 😉
As for Derek, well…he needed a wall too. He totally wasn’t expecting it, but Heather being the sweet wife she is wanted to surprise him with his very own space in the office. So I went to work organizing his accomplishments & favorite things in one area. Derek was featured on the cover of Soirée for his tireless effort & dedication that he devotes to The Hat Club as the president. And in case you didn’t know…wait for it…wait for it….Derek has completed a marathon in Chicago AND a 100 mile bike race in Texas (in 100 degree temps)! Wheeeew! I’m tired just thinking about it! How awesome is that!!! D-Dog definitely deserves some recognition for that!!! However, it’s no surprise considering he did get voted “Most Athletic” in high school! I’m sure I’m embarrassing him now, so I’ll move on. 🙂 Also on Derek’s wall, we put his signed baseball by none other than my own favorite Yankee’s short-stop, Derek Jeter! #2 in-tha-house!!! Jealous! And last, but not least, his vintage record player that he likes to play for some relaxing vintage tunes while he’s working in the office. Take note of Derek’s face on the Soirée photo…that’s exactly the face he had when we surprised him with his very own wall/space in the office! 😯😆
As I mentioned earlier, Heather started a non-profit last year called Fighting Fancy when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 28. She’s definitely a fighter & is now cancer free! One of the things I love about this girl is her tenacity for getting things done. Fighting Fancy provides bags of health & beauty related products for women going through chemotherapy around the world. Heather runs this operation out of her home office, so a Fighting Fancy space was a MUST! Let’s take a look at the space organized for this amazing cause.
Heather was featured on the cover of Soirée representing Fighting Fancy to help spread awareness by sharing the story of her own personal battle with breast cancer. She was also featured in an ad by Scarlet showing support for STRONG women! I love, love, love this wall! This wall is a constant reminder for her of the battles she has overcome & how she is making a difference in the lives of others because of it.
And last but not least…the closet! With all the purposes being served in this office, the closet where everything is stored has to be BEYOND organized. And of course, Mind Over Matter will not stop until the task is completed with perfection. It has to be functional, simple to maintain & beautiful! Those are my rules. Heather turned me loose to work my magic & here is how it turned out.
Well…I can’t take all the credit – I have to admit that I did have a little help. My furry friends Pitkin & Walter were there every step of the way to assist me & make sure everything was organized just perfectly! They’re the sweetest puppies ever! We became great pals during the project, so I after I took photos of the office I did a little doggie photo shoot. They’re camera hams!
